Have you noticed anything different about our brand name or tagline? We’ll be honest, it’s small to the naked eye, but it has a significant impact on our brand. Have you figured it out yet? We’ll give you a hint: it’s like we’ve added a new sparkle to our name! Ok, we’ll tell you already….PrePOPsterous® is officially a registered trademark, as indicated by the cute little symbol at the end of the brand name. Oh, but there’s more! We’ve also trademarked Absurdly®.
Are you wondering why this is such a big deal? We figured as much. When we developed our brand name we weren’t thinking about trademark..we were just happy to have launched our brand. But over time, and the more we thought about, the more filing for a registered trademark seemed like a smart business investment. We love our brand name and tagline because of their uniqueness, and we wanted to protect both for the long-term.
Here are the top reasons we decided to trademark:
- Our brand name is our intellectual property. Our name is unique, whimsical, and the “POP” in the middle precisely conveys what we’re all about – gourmet popcorn and soda pop! Best of all, it’s not even a real word; it’s one we created. So again, back to protecting something so unique…it was a no brainer!
- It avoids brand confusion. We ship gourmet popcorn all over the country, and had we not registered PrePOPsterous® as a trademark another individual could have started a company with the same name selling the same type of product in another state. Now, there would be two brands out there and consumers would be confused about which they should purchase. Having that little symbol attached to our brand means no one can create another company with the same name within the USA.
- Implies trust, confidence and longevity to consumers. Think about all of the major brands you know and take a look at their logos. If you look closely, you’ll see the registered trademark symbol. Companies that register their trademarks intend to have longevity in their market space, and longevity engenders a sense of trust with consumers. A trademark also conveys brand quality and value. We want our customers to trust that we are offering a high quality product, and have confidence that we intend to be around for a very long time.
- Positions the brand for future growth. Think of that same group of companies. They were smart to invest in their trademarks early so that as their company grew no one could come along and start a company with the same name and selling the same product.
